Wrathall Monuments in the Grantsville Cemetery

In July 2002, Pauline Hawker, great-granddaughter of James Wrathall (1828 - 1896), sent photos of Wrathall and related monuments in the Grantsville Utah cemetery. These photos include the James Wrathall lot, the James Leishman Wrathall lot, the Paul Edward Wrathall lot and the Edward Hunter lot. Each list of photos is preceded by a description of the arrangement of the burial sites using information extracted by James L. Wrathall II from Lucas Halladay's compilation of Grantsville cemetery records (see Civil records item 14 ).

James Wrathall Lot

The James Wrathall lot (located in Block H, Section 4, Lot 4) is ordered south to north and contains 8 graves. On the west side, Caroline Bengston Wrathall (4th wife) is buried in grave W1 (southwest corner), James in grave W2, Mary Leishman Wrathall (1st wife) in grave W3, and her mother Sarah Leishman in grave AS-W4 (northwest corner). On the east side the James Wrathall lot, Clara Louisa Wrathall is buried in grave E1 (southeast corner), her mother Frances Port Wrathall (3rd wife) in grave E2, Flora Sabin Wrathall (2nd wife) in grave E3 and her mother Nancy Ann Sabin in grave AS-E4 (northeast corner). Frances Port Wrathall's brother Henry Port is buried in an adjacent lot (L-1) of the same Block and Section. The larger monuments are next to the actual burial places, which are marked with a small stone in which the initials are carved. In some cases the burial stones are no longer legible. We don't know the meaning of the prefix "AS".
