Susannah Wrathall (1691 - 1747) and Robert Joy

  • Audrey May , who can be reached at audmay@ozemail.com.au , is researching her connection to Linton Wrathalls via a marriage to the Joy family:
I was thrilled to find a mailing list for WRATHALL. I have WRATHALLs in Linton and Burnsall in the 1700s back ........ I have a marriage of a ROBERT JOY to SUSANNAH WRATHALL on 3 May 1722 at Pateley Bridge by Licence. They were `both of the parish of Linton`......... I cannot find a birth for Susannah around 1696 anywhere (The Mar. Lic said she was 26). If anyone can throw any light on this I would be very grateful.

I've seen the reference to WILLIAM WRATHALL and SUSAN DEANE on the I.G.I. but when I looked at the film, 1680 was missing. It was the Bishops' Transcripts so hopefully I can get a film of the Parish Registers. SUSANNAH was buried in Burnsall 24 Aug 1747 - the wife of ROBERT JOY, schoolmaster of Banks, parish of Ripon.

My ancestor JOTHAM JOY may have been buried in the Burnsall area after 1800 ( His mother was SUSANNA WRATHALL who married ROBERT JOY). JOTHAM was born1724 and married 1755.

From the International Genealogical Index - British Isles:

This indicates that JOTHAM JOY is descended from William WRATHALL (b. 1650), second son of William (b. 1622), of the line of Henry Wratho of Linton .
