Standard Form:

We the undersigned, being the Overseers of the Township of Melling with Wrayton in the County of Lancaster do hereby give you NOTICE, that in consequence of the inability of Alice Wrathall of Melling with Wrayton Singlewoman, to maintain a male Bastard Child, born on the body of her the said Alice Wrathall in the said Township of Melling with Wrayton on the Thirtyth day of September last and after having made diligent enquiry as to the Father of the said Child, it is our intention to apply to the next General Quarter Sessions of the Peace, to be holden at the Castle of Lancaster in the said County of Lancaster on the Second day of January now next (the said Quarter Sessions being within the Jurisdiction in which the said Township is Situate) for an Order to be then and there made upon you, whom we shall and do now charge with being the putative Father of the said Child, to reimburse the said Township of Melling with Wrayton for the maintenance and support of the said Bastard Child, from the time of its Birth to the time of making the said Order; and also to reimburse the said Township for its maintenance and support whilst chargeable to the said Township of Melling with Wrayton but that the said Order shall continue in force only until the said Child shall attain the age of Seven Years, if it shall so long live; or for such Order upon you, in that respect, as to the said Court shall appear to be just and reasonable, under all the circumstances of the case.
