What is the mailing list for?It is primarily intended as a research aid for any questions / queries / information concerning Wrathall genealogy. This includes variants on the spelling of the name such as Wrathell, Wraythall or Wrathall Bull.
How do I post to the list?By sending an email message to firstname.lastname@example.org - note only post to the "-l" as the "-d" is automagically built up from the "-l" postings.
What can I post to the list?Any questions / queries / information concerning Wrathall genealogy. This includes variants on the spelling of the name such as Wrathell, Wraythall or Wrathall Bull. Please do NOT post large attachments. If you have some information such as a scanned image etc. please do not send it to the whole list. It is better to mail the list to see who is interested and then send them the attachment directly.
What are the list and digest options? The list is available in two forms. The first is know as list (WRATHALL-L) and means that you will receive each message posted to the list as an individual mail. The second option is the digest which will group messages together and them mail you a single email containing an index and each of the messages. The rules for when this mail is sent are complex however they include the number of postings so that the message is not enormous, and an elapsed time so that the messages are sent within a reasonable time of being posted to the list.
How do I subscribe to the list?To subscribe in list mode send an email to email@example.com with no subject and the word "subscribe" as the only text in the body of the message - don't include the quotation marks. To subscribe in digest mode send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org with no subject and the word "subscribe" as the only text in the body of the message - don't include the quotation marks.
How do I unsubscribe from the list?Send an email to email@example.com (firstname.lastname@example.org for the digest) with no subject line and just the text "unsubscribe" in the body of the message - without the quotation marks.
What web sites are there which contain Wrathall data?Andrew Wrathall has some excellent information on the Australian and New Zealand branch of the family at http://www-mugc.cc.monash.edu.au/~awra1/wrathall
James Wrathall has a site at http://www.tsoft.com/~wrathall
My own site is at http://www.wrathall.org
Other sources of informationInformation for UK and Irish research can be found on the GENUKI site at http://www.genuki.org. This site includes information on surname lists for given areas - including the West Riding of Yorkshire where it all seems to have started. ALso, for most areas, there is information on local record offices etc. Rootsweb at http://www.rootsweb.com has lots of useful information.
How to search previous messagesRootsweb provide a search utility for all the mailinglists they host at the following url http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl
What is a Tagline?Taglines are the short messages appended to each posting. The "commercial" ones help to fund rootsweb - though I can switch them off. The "Wrathall" ones currently cycle between my own site, James Wrathalls site and the rootsweb search utility. If you have a site you'd like me to include please email me.
Who looks after the listThe list is hosted by rootsweb. Administration is done by me, Roy Wrathall.
