In Loving Memory of

William Wimant,

WHO DIED 16th APRIL 1885

Aged 69 years

Interred at Farnsfield, 20th April 1885

.....regret to announce the decease of this well know and highly esteemed townsman, which took place on Thursday. Mr Wimant who was 69 years of age came to this town about eight years ago as landlord of the Thorn Tree Hotel, which he kept upto his death. For about 32 years he was in the Notts constabulary, which he was one of the first to join, retiring on a pension. During that time, although he was a very strict disciplinarian, he was much beloved by all under him, and much regret was felt at his retirement from the force. Deceased was a staunch conservative. Fearless in his political opinions, he never hid his light under a bushel, and many time has his antagonists been completely flawed by his trenchant arguments. Indeed, by his dimise the cause has lost one of its most unflinching supporters. His widow and seven sons and daughters have sustained an irreparable loss, and the town has lost one of its most genial and its most respected inhabitants.
