OBITUARY OF JAMES L. WRATHALL

TOOELE COUNTY LEADER IS DEAD
GRANTSVILLE ---- James Leishman Wrathall, 72, one of the most prominent men of Grantsville and Tooele County, died at his home here Tuesday morning from a heart attack. Mr. Wrathall had not been in good health for some time.
Mr. Wrathall was born in Grantsville, September 22, 1860, the son of James and Mary Leishman Wrathall. He followed farming and stock raising all his life. In 1887 he was called to Wisconsin and Illinois on an L. D. S. mission, serving until 1889. He was married in the Salt Lake L. D. S. Endowment house February 2, 1882, to Penninah S. Hunter, daughter of Bishop Edward Hunter. He later married Charlotte Rowberry. He was made bishop of the Grantsville L. D. S. ward July 30, 1890, serving in that capacity 17 and one half years. At the time of his death he was president of the Tooele L.D.S. stake high priests' quorum.
He was an ardent political worker in the Republican party since its organization in Utah. He was a member of the Grantsville school board 13 years, and, after the county consolidation, served 17 years on the Tooele county board of education. For four years he served as a member of the state board of agriculture, and acted on directorates of several local and state financial institutions.
Mr. Wrathall is survived by his widows and the following sons and daughters: James Leslie, Paul E. and Morris Y. Wrathall, Mrs. Myrtle Barrus, Mrs. Irene Page and Mrs. Hazel Johnson, Grantsville; Mrs. Alice Johnson, Grant and Taft Wrathall, Salt Lake; Leishman Wrathall, New York City; Jay Wrathall, Pittsburgh, Pa.; Mrs. Penninah Anderson, Los Angeles, and Janice Wrathall, New Castle, Pa.; one sister, Mrs. Mary Alice Spry, widow of former Governor William Spry, and the following half-brothers and half-sisters: Mrs. Lucy W. Matthews, Mrs. Helen W. Anderson, Mrs. Jennie Orr and Mrs. Lizzie W. Rowberry, Grantsville; Mrs. Lois Packard and Eva Wrathall, Salt Lake; Mrs. Edith Madill, Magna; Percy and Clyde Wrathall, Los Angeles, Cal.
