Margaret Wrathall, 74, was herding cattle at her Northamptonshire farm when a bull broke loose from the pack and charged at her.
The crazed bullock knocked Margaret over then brutally savaged her as she lay unconscious on the ground.
Tragic Margaret was flown by air ambulance to Walsgrave Hospital, in Coventry, shortly after 5pm on Tuesday, but she died from severe head injuries.
Shocked friends described widow Margaret, who was a keen hunter and charity fundraiser, as a pillar of the community and lady of the manor.
Ian Barnett, a villager and chair of the church council, said:
A bullock was being loaded up onto a vehicle but it broke free and charged at her.
It knocked her for six then savaged her on her the ground as bullocks do. It was an unpleasant incident.
She was the pillar of the village and a very traditional lady who loved the countryside. She was almost from another age and loved rural life.
She loved East Haddon where she spent all her life and grew up in The Hall before moving. Margaret was the lady of the manor.
Our whole community feels a great sense of loss and she leaves an enormous gap in so many parts of our lives.
Around 130 well-wishers held an impromptu church service at at East Haddon Church in her memory on Wednesday and 500 are expected at her funeral next Thursday.
Her devastated family described Margaret as a keen horsewoman and a great showjumper.
She was a dedicated warden at East Haddon Church and worked as an instructor for the charity Riding for the Disabled for 40 years.
Generous Margaret was well-known for her charity work and dedicated her life to the Church of England, serving on the Church Council and Brixworth Deanery Synod.
Margaret has been a widow since husband Guy sadly died 15 years ago and is survived by four daughters and six grandchildren.
Rev Sue Kipling, Rector of the Spencer Benefice, which includes East Haddon, said:
Margaret was a wonderful Christian woman whose faith underpinned all she did.
She was dedicated to the village and the church community, serving as a Churchwarden for many years.
She welcomed me so warmly as the new Rector, introducing me to her broods of ducks, hens and bantams.
If she felt anyone was in need of support, she would be there, perhaps with new-laid eggs or a jar of homemade marmalade.
A spokesman for Peterborough Diocese said:
We were very shocked to hear of Margaret's tragic death.
She had been a faithful and hard-working member of the church in East Haddon and in the wider Spencer Benefice for many years.
She had a great gift for getting things done and for mobilising and encouraging others, and she will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
Her family, friends and the community she served are in the thoughts and prayers of many people, including both our bishops and the Archdeacon of Northampton.
