DISTRICT INTELLIGENCE

WESTHOUSE

The Old Cotton Mill – It is over thirty years since the mill ceased running, and after its machinery was broken up for old iron it was permitted to sink into decay. As Messrs. Wrathall, Hart and Waterhouse have taken the mill on a lease of fourteen years, there is now a prospect of its being made serviceable to the locality. Miss Burrow, of Greenfield, Caton, is the owner, and as she was wishful to make the mill of service to the inhabitants, she has leased it at a nominal rent. The conditions are, that the rent of the mill and six cottages known as Westhouse Row shall be £60 per annum, and that the lessor shall allow £200 for repairs, and that the lessees shall fit up machinery and find everything needful for carrying on the works as an oil-cloth manufactory. Workmen began repairs of the mill on Friday, the 5th inst.
