William and Mary Maud Wrathall's Travels


Robert William Wrathall of Leicestershire contributed the following information about his grandparents William and Mary Maud in November 2002:
It's interesting to think over my Grandparents going off to New York in June 1939 when war in Europe was inevitable! The travel details I have are as follows :

Maiden Voyage of the Queen Mary.

The Queen Mary departed Southampton 27 May 1936 at 4.33pm, arriving at Cherbourg, France at 8.47pm and departed Cherbourg at 12.39am the following day (28 May 1936).
The Queen Mary arrived at Pier 90 in New York 1 June 1936at 4.20pm giving a crossing time (Bishop Rock to Ambrose Light Vessel) of 5 days, 5 hours and 13 minutes.
The arrival date fits with Immigration stamp 1 above.

They went to the New York World's Fair in 1839 and stayed in the Hotel New Weston, Madison Avenue at 50th Street, New York City.

I have no idea of who they saw in Canada and didn't know that they had any Canadian connections at all. From James' website, the offspring of Richard Parker Wrathall would have been in Canada in the 1930's. W & MM only stayed 1 day in Canada in 1936 but spent 2 weeks (or had a 2 week visa) in 1939.
