Other Australian Wrathalls
This page contains references to Wrathalls of Australia who haven't been shown to be descendants of Stephen Wrathall of Tasmania (1779-1872).
Part of Elizabeth Janson's web site has data on three Wrathall lines, including some descendants of Stephen Wrathall of Tasmania (1779 -1872), as well as two others not closely related to him. One of these lines is that of Thomas Wrathall (1830 - 1910), who remembered his parents (when he died) as Mary and Lupton Wragge. Thomas married Margaret Nicoll in 1860. Referring to the line of Anthonie Wrathall of Linton , this is probably Thomas b. 1830, the fifth son of Lupton Wrathall and Mary Cummings .
Robert Wrathall of Perth visited the U.S. in the late 60's, when he appeared to be about 45 years old. When asked about his ancestors, he volunteered the information that an early ancestor had been a prisoner of Mother England. He was involved in the manufacture or sale of farm machinery.
In December 2002, Robert Wrathall of Victoria (mtkr(at)bigpond(dot)com) contacted us with the following biographical info:
I was born in Warrnambool in Victoria, Australia in 1958. My father is William Wrathall and he lives in Perth, Western Australia. I have two sons: Matthew Robert and Timothy John. I was told the name came from Yorkshire and your site appears to confirm that. The name Wrathall is quite rare in Australia, with many people having difficulty pronouncing it. Is this because of the Australian accent or do they have similar problems with the name in the U.K.?
In May 2005, Rootsweb's Australian Records Database had references to newspaper articles concerning the following:
