James Miller and Mary Anne Wrathall

In June 2005, Clare Costello , who can be reached at i(dot)costello(at)ntlworld(dot)com, contributed the following about her research into her Wrathall ancestors:
I am a descendant of the Wrathalls by two lines: James Miller and Mary Anne Wrathall, as you have noted in Darlington in 1881 (where I still live), and also Edward Wildman and Ann Wrathall from Ingleton. I have outlined my connection to the Wrathalls as follows:
From this point there are two different lines connected to the Wrathalls.

Firstly:
James Miller (Great x 3, Addingham 1838)
His parents were Anthony Miller/Milner and Grace Wildman (Greats x 4). Grace was born in Ingleton in 1811, her parents being Edward Wildman and Anne Wrathall.

Secondly:
Mary Anne Wrathall (Great x 3, Darlington 1832)
In the 1841 and 1851 censuses, Mary Anne is listed as living in Darlington with her father Thomas Wrathall, but on her Marriage certificate, her father is listed as Anthony Barker. I am still trying to sort this out; possibly Thomas was her grandfather, bringing her up. Thomas Wrathall, listed as her father in the census, was born in Thornton-in-Lonsdale in 1782, and was married to Jane born in 1782. I cannot find the marriage, but was wondering if the marriage of Thomas Wrathall and Jenny Grime could be it.
Some data are available to help identify Mary Anne Wrathall's origins, although there may be another Mary Anne Wrathall born around the same time: In light of some new information, Clare is continuing her research along these lines:
The Mary Anne with parents Stephen and Margaret is another Mary Anne. When I first started my research I believed it was her, but have since discounted this. However, her father Stephen may be the Uncle of my Mary Anne (whose marriage was in 1856).

On the 1841 census, some Bakers are living next door to the Wrathalls, so I am going to try and see if there is a connection. I am still working on the marriage of Thomas Wrathall and Jane/Jenny Grime - I am hoping a visit to Northallerton Record some time soon to see the parish records, which may help.

Thomas Wrathall's parents are Stephen Wrathall and Mary Robinson of the Thornton in Lonsdale area, and they also had a daughter Anne who was born in the right year and place for the birth of the Anne Wrathall who married Edward Wildman, so I believe the two lines merge there. Thomas Wrathall's wife was called both Jenny and Jane, so I have found their marriage and her maiden name - Grime. I can now research her further.

Thomas and Jane/Jenny Wrathall had a daughter called Mary in 1803, and in 1838, Mary Anne, the illegitimate daughter of Mary Wrathall, was baptised. I now believe this to be my Mary Anne, because it would explain why her father was legally Anthony Barker, but she was brought up by Thomas and Jane Wrathall, her grandparents.

Mary Anne is cited as being born between 1832 and 1837 on various documents, censuses, marriage, burial etc. As the baptism of the illegitimate Mary Anne is Jan. 1838, I am going to see if I can order her birth certificate, if I can find the reference number. This may sort it out.
Here are some further sources of data concerning Clare's line:
