Mrs. Henrietta WRATHALL
Mrs Henrietta Wrathall, whose son was sworn in on Wednesday as the new
president of Rhodesia, died yesterday at her home, Leighton Close, Slackhead,
Beetham. She was 91.
Born in Lancaster, she was the widow of the late Thomas Wrathall. They lived
at Skerton before moving to Halton. Mrs. Wrathall went to live with her daughter,
Mrs. Irene Rogers, in Slackhead six years ago. She maintained an interest
in music all her life.
Mrs. Wrathall is survived by her son, daughter, four grandchildren and seven
great-grandchildren.
The funeral took place at St. Wilfrid's Church, Halton on Tuesday at I l
am.

John James WRATHALL ( Encyclopaedia Britannica Book of the Year
1978 )
Wrathall, John, Rhodesian politician (b. Aug 28 1913, Lancaster, England
- d. Aug 31 1978, Salisbury, Rhodesia), was appointed president of Rhodesia
on Jan 14, 1976. A chartered accountant who went to Rhodesia in 1936, he
worked as a civil servant and accountant before entering politics in 1954
as a member of the United Rhodesia Party. In 1962 he helped found the Rhodesian
Front Party and two years later was appointed minister of finance. In this
capacity Wrathall was instrumental in protecting the country's economy by
devising ways to circumvent UN economic sanctions against Rhodesia. He signed
the country's declaration of independence in 1965 and in 1966 became Ian
Smith's deputy prime minister.

William George Wrathall
Mr William George Wrathall, formerly of Burton, died with tragic suddenness
at his home, Brougham Street, Skipton, on Friday last. He was in his seventy-third
year and a highly respected member of a well known old Burton family. Up
to his removal to Ortner Farm, Over Wyresdale, he lived practically all his
life in Burton. He married Miss Elizabeth Alice Nelson, of Longber Farm,
and in their early married life they lived at Keighley, returning to Burton
to take over the Joiner and wheelwright business of Mr. Railton, afterwards,
Sherwood Farm which he farmed for 25 years. He then left Burton for Ortner
Farm, and was there for ? years, retiring to Skipton five years ago. He was
an ardent Churchman, being in the choir for 40 years, clerk and sexton for
18 years and a member of the Burton Parish Council.
The interment at All Saints Church, Burton-in-Lonsdale on Tuesday was largely
attended. The service was conducted by the Rev. Canon Stowell, and assisted
by the Rev. Canon Stoney, Rector of Skipton Parish Church. Mrs. Steel was
at the organ, and the hymn "Jesus lover of my soul" was sung.
The coffin was borne to the grave by Messrs. John, George, and Willie Nelson
(nephews) and Messrs. Bob Robinson, David Bateson, and Ted Dickinson (sons-
in-law). In addition to members of the family the principal mourners were:

Mrs. Elizabeth Alice Wrathall
The death of Mrs. Elizabeth Alice Wrathall took place at her home, 59,
Brougham Street, Skipton, on Saturday. The deceased, who was 78 years of
age, was a highly respected member of a well-known old Burton family, being
a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Nelson, of Longber Farm. She was
the widow of Mr. George Wrathall, who for many years farmed at Sherwood House,
and up to the time of their removal to Ortner Farm, Abbeystead, had lived
all her life in the village. Ten years ago they left Abbeystead to live in
retirement at Skipton, where Mr. Wrathall died four years ago. She leaves
a family of two sons, six daughters, and fifteen grandchildren. The interment
at All Saints' Church, on Wednesday, was largely attended. The Rev. L. S.
Evans conducted the service. Mr W. Bateson was at the organ, and played suitable
funeral music, and the hymn "Jesu, lover of my soul" was sung. The coffin
was borne by Messrs. J. and G. Nelson (nephews), D. Bateson and E. Dickinson

Wrathall. Peacefully at Kepplegate Rest Home on January 11, 2000. Emily,
aged 94 years. The dearly-loved wife of the late Frank, a much loved mum
of Derek, Dorothy and the late Harry, a devoted nana and great nana. Will
be sadly missed by all her family and friends. Funeral service to be held
at St. Hilda's Church, Bilsborrow on Monday January 17, at 1.30 pm, followed
by interment in the churchyard. Family flowers only please, donations in

Commander Harold B. Wrathall UBE, RAF Rtd., aged 78 years. The dearly loved
husband of the late Lilian Maude Teresa (Terry) Wrathall. Service at Christ
Church, Oakworth on Monday March 10 at 11.30 am followed by private cremation.

in hospital on Wednesday October 30 2002. Mary Green née Wrathall
aged 86 years of Skipton the dearly loved wife of the late Alan Green, loving
mum of Charles and Janet, much loved grandma of Laura and Oliver and a treasured
sister to Emily, Bert (Herbert) and the late Elsie. A funeral service and
