Wrathall Research by Myra Simmonds
Myra Simmonds and Derek Wrathall, both active members of the Wharfedale Family History Group (WFHG), have been collaborating on research into Wrathall ancestors. In January 2001, Myra had this to say about her results to date:
I have put together 4 family charts (descendancies) from entries in Linton Parish Registers, based on a printout of the registers given to me by Derek. The fourth chart is of the entries which I could not fit into families; taking all 4 charts together, these make up almost all of the entries on the printout that Derek gave me. It is very difficult to allot a burial entry to a specific person unless further information has been given e.g. "Jenett the wife of Robte Wrathall buried...".
These charts have many question marks in them and can, in no way, be taken as absolute fact. Having several people of the same name living at the same time makes things difficult. In addition, I hope to do some more study of the later Linton registers.
The descendancies prepared by Myra are for three early Linton residents.
- Chart 1 is for Anthonie Wrathall, continuing through John Wrathall and Anne Pickersgill to their descendants by their second son Thomas. Myra has also collected all the supporting entries from the parish register printout to document this first descendancy. Chart 1 lists the several generations up to Myra's great-grandmother, Mary Hannah Wrathall.
- Chart 2 is for Robert Wrathall, continuing through 5 generations of his descendants.
- Chart 3 is for Henry Wratho, the ancestor of Henry Wrathall; the wills of this latter Henry and his wife Susanna have been transcribed by Myra, who mentioned the following about this chart:
In chart 3, where the entries for Henry and Susanna appear, I have marked all the entries which are confirmed by their wills. I was quite pleased to find a reference to a Corn Mill in Grassington; I wouldn't think that would have more than one! I wonder if there is still enough left for it to be recognised as a mill - if the location can be found? I saw no references in Elizabeth Raistrick's book "What to see in Grassington, Linton and Threshfield" to any of the garths (closes or yards) or lanes mentioned in Henry and Susanna's wills, but it was all very interesting anyway.
- Chart 4 lists 7 early Wrathall families whom Myra couldn't place in the other three descendancies.
In addition to the 4 charts of of Linton Wrathall descendancies, Myra has provided some historical notes and other records relating to Wrathalls:
